Passion for peptides – The people behind Pepscan
“I’m always looking for ways to improve,” says Upendo Syikilili. Upendo has been working as a Crude Library Technician for over a year and is one of Pepscan’s employees who recently took part in Pepscan’s Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training. “For us continuous improvement is an important tool to deliver the highest quality to customers and at the same time stay flexible in our operational organization. My colleagues and I focus on ways to make our processes more efficient and to reduce risks in the lab, like human errors.”
From small sets to libraries of thousands of different species
Upendo is part of Pepscan’s Crude Library team. “We are dedicated to timely delivery of large sets of peptides for a broad range of bioactivity-screening purposes like the discovery of critical bioactive peptides. Every customer’s research question is different; and my colleagues and I are dedicated to delivering a tailored solution to each one.”
Pepscan is the founder of peptide library technology and has over 25 years of experience in designing, synthesizing, and using custom peptide libraries. Custom peptide arrays are offered in all sizes and formats, ranging from a small set of peptides to libraries of thousands of different species. Peptide lengths usually range from 5 to 30 amino acids, which is sufficient for most applications. However, Pepscan can provide peptide libraries of up to 50 amino acids in length as well, if required, with conformational constraints or post-translational modifications.
“Every day I’m working on projects that are part of possible future life-improving breakthroughs. This makes my job very satisfying and is the reason why I have passion for peptides. Recently, some of our customers shared with us their research and development journey, and particularly how Pepscan has contributed to that. This was not only very interesting but also made me extra proud of what we are contributing to.”
